Green tea is made from the same plant as black tea Camellia sinensis. However, the processing that the leaves undergo makes the final tea different. The leaves for black tea are fully oxidised while those for green tea are lightly steamed before being dried. Green tea is considered to have the strongest therapeutic effect and the highest polyphenol content. Polyphenols are beneficial chemicals found in plants which act as antioxidants.
